NRL game development manager Andrew Hill has been appointed as the new chief executive for the 2017 Rugby League World Cup organising committee.

Hill will step aside from his NRL duties to take on the role after Michael Brown quit in July following the controversial release of the tournament's schedule, which included just two games in Sydney.

"Rugby league is well placed both domestically and internationally to experience growth in participation and popularity in the coming years and I see the Rugby League World Cup in 2017 as the ideal platform for us achieving this," Hill said.
