Wayne Bennett has dismissed reports he is interested in luring NRL stars to play for England as a cheap story.
Former NSW halfback Trent Hodkinson has reportedly confirmed Bennett spoke to him about a switch, while Brett and Josh Morris were also believed to have been in his sights, with all eligible for England thanks to their grandfathers.
But Bennett was not impressed by the speculation on Thursday ahead of his Broncos' NRL clash with Melbourne in Brisbane.
"It's media driven. It's none of my doing - you guys are getting yourselves all excited," England coach Bennett said.
The Rugby League International Federation has subsequently tried to shut down a potential NRL switch, saying players can't swap between Australia, New Zealand and England.
