One of the most difficult things for a premiership winning team to do is retain their talent. You win a premiership your value as a player goes up. Hence the trouble in keeping Coote (which they managed to do) and Tamou (word is that Gus Gould has wooed him to the foothills in Penrith).
However good news for Cowboys fans today that Linnett has extended his contract by two years until the end of 2018. With Winterstein and Coote doing the same and Thurston hinting at 2018 being his last year, the obvious sign is that this is when the administration feels like the premiership window will close and rebuild will need to happen.
My prediction is that by the end of 2018 Michael Morgan will be installed as club captain and the side will be built around him for the future.
